Macroscyphus macropus Pers. ex S. F. Gray syn. Macropodia macropus (Pers. ex S. F. Gray) Fuckel syn. Cyathipodia macropus (Pers. ex S. F. Gray) Dennis. Grosser Pokalbecherling. Cup 1–4cm across, expanding and turning back on itself, inner surface grey-brown, outer appearing pale grey due to the dense covering of tufted, downy hairs. Stem 15–40 x 3–5mm, tapering upwards, often flattened or compressed, covered in tufts of grey downy hairs. Flesh thin, white. Asci 35–20µ. Spores fusiform, containing a large central oil drop with a smaller one at each end, 20–30 x 10–12µ. Habitat deciduous and coniferous woods. Season summer to autumn. Occasional. Not edible. Distribution, America and Europe.
